Hey everyone. Here is a tutorial how to make a fully metal sig. It's simple, but i think it looks kinda good. I would say it's a pretty good tutorial to start learning some metal techniques.... Enjoy!
This is the final outcome:
[Break= Step 1]
1. Open an image, size 500*150
Fill it with any color of background, i picked a light grey.
2. open a new layer, and create a shape like THIS (and fill it with any color):
- If you don't know how to do it, take your eliptical marquee tool and make a circle (while you are holding down shift) which has the same hight as this shape. Fill the circle with white, and duplicate the layer. put one of the circle in one site, and the other one in the other site. Take your rectangular marquee tool and make a rectangle beetween the two circles (make sure that the rectangle fits exactly with the circles, probably move around with the circles) Now make a new layer and fill the rectangle. Merge (ctrl+e) all 3 layers and you should have your shape!
- if you still don't understand, please tell me, and i will record how to do it...
[Break= Step 3]
3. Open the shapes Layer style, go to Layer -> Layer style -> Blending options. Use these settings:
Bevel and emboss:
Contour
Satin:
Gradient overlay:
^It doesn't matter if you can't make the exact same gradient, won't be seen.
Name this layer shape1 (or just remember when i talk about shape 1, it is this layer)
Your image should now look like this. If not double-check the settings you have used in layer styles:
[Break= Step 4]
4. make a new layer, and now take you rectangular marquee tool and make a selection like this:
Fill it with any color and open layer style (gradient overlay), and enter these settings:
Outer Glow:
Gradient overlay:
Now go Filter -> Blur -> Gaussian blur and enter an amount of 0,5 px.
[Break = Steps 5 and 6]
5. Open a new layer, and make with the eliptical marquee tool a selection like this:
- Fill it with grey.
DO NOT DESELECT YOUR SELECTION
6. Open another layer, and go Selection -> Modify -> Contract and enter an amount of 5 pixel. Fill the new selection with this color: 027FFF
DO NOT DESELCT YOUR SELECTION
[Break= Step 7]
7. Now go back to the grey circle-layer and with your selection from before push DELETE. Now open the layer styles of this layer, and enter these settings:
Outer Glow:
Bevel And Emboss:
Contour:
Gradient Overlay:
[Break= Step 8]
8. Now go back to the layer you have filled with the color 027FFF, and open layer styles. Enter these settings:
Inner glow:
Bevel and emboss:
contour:
There is not long way to the goal now.. ..
[Break= Step 9]
9. Open a new layer, and now while holding down Ctrl click at the layer which is called "Shape 1" (the first shape). A selection should now appear. Hit ctrl+shift+i on your keyboard and the selection should now invert. Fill this selection with any color. Open layer styles and enter these settings:
Outer glow:
Bevel and Emboss:
contour:
Gradient Overlay:
[Break= Step 10]
10. Add some glossy finish to the orb, and put in some text. Finish it off with a 1px black stroke around the sig.
You can change the color of it if you like..
Hopefully you enjoyed it.. ..
