In this tutorial i'm going to show you how to create a Techno Orb,
which looks really great with Tech designs as you can see
from my example:
Open a new document 250x250
[break= Rulers]
Now we need the rulers for this so
if they are not open On the Top Menu go to
View and make sure the following is selected :
At the top and side u'll see white borders
place ur cursor over the top one and drag it down
doing so you will see the blue guide appear.
Position it over the canvas as it gets to the centre
you will feel it snap into place. Repeat this step
for the one at the side too.
You should now have you ruler guides like this:
Note* Basically we use the rulers because it helps
to find the centre of the layer we are working on.
This is really good when working with circles.
[break= OrbBorder]
Creating the OrbBorder
---------------------------------
Create a new layer name it 'OrbBorder'
1. Select the Eliptical Marquee tool :
Place the cursor right in the centre of the canvas :
and while holding the shift key (doing this makes
a perfect circle) and alt (doing this creates the
marquee from the centre outwards) create a circle :
2. Select the paint bucket tool :
and fill with black.
Now deselect :
3. Select the Eliptical Marquee tool again
and this time again while holding shift and alt
make a smaller circle inside the bigger one
you just made like so :
4. Now hit the delete button, doing this with
remove the inner part of the circle leaving us
with the shape of our 'OrbBorder':
Now deselect :
[break= Dropshadow]
5. On the top Menu go to Layer > LayerStyle > BlendinG Options
Dropshadow
BevelandEmboss
Contour
Satin
Note*Remember to tick the 'corner' box for each point in this contour.
GradientOverlay
You should now have an 'OrbBorder' like this :
[break= OrbBase]
Creating the OrbBase
-------------------------------
Create a new layer name it 'OrbBase' and place it
so it is between the background and OrbBorderlayer
in the layers pallete.
6. As you did in step3 Select the Eliptical Marquee
tool again and create a circle like so:
7. Select the paint bucket tool again and fill
it with black.
8. On the top Menu go to Layer > LayerStyle > BlendinG Options
GradientOverlay
Your orb should now look like this :
Note* To remove the rulers On the top Menu go to > View > Clear Guides.
[break= OrbGlass]
Creating the OrbGlass
-------------------------------
Create a new layer name it 'OrbGlass'
9. Now Ctrl click on the 'OrbBase' layer
and the Marquee will appear.
10. Select the paint bucket tool and on the
'OrbGlass' layer fill the marquee with black.
11. Lower the Fill of the layer to 0%
12. On the top Menu go to Layer > LayerStyle > BlendinG Options
InnerShadow
InnerGlow
BevelandEmboss
Contour
Satin
[break= OrbReflex]
Creating the OrbReflex
-----------------------
Create a new layer name it 'OrbReflex'
13. Select the Gradient Fill tool :
Make sure the settings are as follows and click on the
gradient thumbnail :
The gradient editor window will now open :
Both arrows circled in red should be white and the arrow circled in
green should have the opacity set to 0.
Now roughly in the position were you want your reflex to be
holding the shift key draw a small gradient like so :
Note* You can use the Move Tool to position your reflex if needed.
[break= Finished]
If you followed all the steps correctly you will now
have a orb like this one:
Happy PSing
